What Would We Do Without Experts and “People Familiar with the Matter”?

by James C. Sherlock

Headline:

“The CDC is expected to recommend that fully vaccinated people begin wearing masks indoors again in places with high Covid-19 transmission rates, according to people familiar with the matter.”

Einstein had it right.

But, then, he went to in-person school.

  1. I was raised on stories in the newspaper from a “Reliable Source.” Now reliable sources are scarce, though there’s plenty of “fake news.” In fact there are few newspapers left. Who needs an expert?

So, what’s the problem? As new facts emerge, it is only reasonable that inferences drawn from them would change. Those new facts include the Delta variant and the continued intransigence of those who simply refuse to get a covid vaccination for political reasons or their reliance on “alternative facts.” It is a truism, that public health officials, the FDA, and CDC are risk averse and epidemiology is subject to multiple interpretations because of the imbedded uncertainties. As for Einstein, he said,”A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.”

Merely brushing off COVID vaccine reluctance as “political” or “alternative facts” isn’t reality.

Sub-sets of our Nation have been the beneficiaries of testing and will not provide trust again.

The extremely low break-through infection rate indicates that the vaccines have even greater efficacy than originally predicted. The vaccines are effective against the Delta-variant.

What “new facts” have emerged which support having fully vaccinated people wear masks?

    3. New facts? None. We’ve known all along that wearing a mask helps avoid passing the virus from an asymptomatic carrier (even a vaccinated one) to others. And, we’ve known that not everyone without a mask is vaccinated. That said, it would do more good than making you and me wear a mask if we required the unvaccinated to wear a bright red “U” on their foreheads.

🙂 Yeah, that’s gonna happen. Here we go again, the CDC is holding its announcement now. I hope somebody points out the huge difference between a nice tight fitting N95 and some loose joke of a cotton bandana, usually slipped down to leave the nose exposed. But putting a mask on the vaccinated merely ends the cries of “do something!!!!” but actually doesn’t. Those getting really sick now have nobody to blame but themselves. As noted, I will accept this with the schools if that is what it takes to keep them open.

All last week, whenever asked about vaccinated people still spreading this, the answers were “we don’t know” and “CDC only tracks hospital cases now.” They may be acting on ignorance, not data.

    4. good quote. but i don’t think the non-vaccinated — the vast majority of blacks [about 75%] and Hispanics [about 65%] — are right wing political ideologues.

And riddle me this, why does the Biden administration support opening our borders to largely unvaccinated people? Who presents the greatest medical risk – someone who has been vaccinated or someone who comes from a community where there is likely no vaccination going on? Science is science only when its woke.

    1. Hey – what do you. 23 Haitians [out of the entire nation] have been vaccinated.

Was reading today around 17% of cases in UK are breakthru cases, and in Israel it’s closer to 50%. I think the editor of FT (Financial Times) was speculating the combination of breakthru+vaccine hesitancy will make herd immunity difficult to accomplish.

This is one wiley bug. Maybe we’re all gonna get it. More have had it than know. You want to get it (or get your second hit) after you’ve been vaccinated.

  5. What ever happened to the non-vaccinated portion of the ‘Herd Immunity’ population? Fauci said that would be good if it were 40% of the population.

This is ridiculous and I hope people will not abide by this BS. Time for this nonsense to end. As Algernon Sidney stated, “resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.” Let’s think about this. Psaki when asked why wear masks stated, “Because the public health leaders in our administration have made the determination.”
“Okay, mom. I hear your reason, but does it make sense? Is there any rationale?” I suspect not.
First, variants tend to be less virulent, not more.
Second, riddle me this: if the CDC did not isolate the covid virus, how in the world can they isolate a variant? It doesn’t make sense. https://principia-scientific.com/even-cdc-now-admits-no-gold-standard-of-covid19-virus-isolate/

copied and pasted: “Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), who practiced medicine for over 25 years, said on “Washington Watch” either the vaccine or a previous infection from the virus will give you 95 percent protection from present infection, even from the new Delta variant. Marshall expressed concern over the attitude of the CDC and the press secretary, who seem to think “they’re smarter than you are… [and] knows what’s best for you.”

He said the CDC’s latest decision “is just going to create more vaccine hesitancy. It’s going to backfire on the CDC.” Almost everyone who hasn’t received the COVID vaccine doesn’t want it. “I just wish there was a little bit more common sense here at the CDC,” Marshall said. “We have to be getting close to herd immunity.” The CDC should be helping us reach that goal, by acknowledging natural immunity instead of encouraging vaccine-hesitant Americans to dig in on their current positions by demanding vaccination.

Mask rules are especially cruel to children. “There’s a huge psychological toll from the masks,” which the CDC has completely ignored in its latest diktat. Depriving children of interaction with human faces hampers their development as well as their mental health, and we have known from early in the pandemic that children are much more resistant to infection and severe infection than adults. There is no reason for children to wear masks. Yet Biden insists they keep the mask on — to protect…who knows? — until who knows when because the vaccines haven’t yet been proven safe for children. Guess what else isn’t safe for children. https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=WA21G52&f=WU21G18
