Don’t forget! Today’s celebrations all started with a resolution from a Virginian, Richard Henry Lee.

And the real story of how Jefferson came to be the author of the Declaration:

Thanks for the education. I had no idea the founding fathers did so much singing.

Yes, I get all my history from Broadway. 🙂 Was a fun show. “Momma, Look Sharp” is the best number. My wife sang Abigail Adams in a production at W&M during the Bicentennial and met the official US Bicentennial commissioner! Five points to the first person to provide that name! (Became a well known Virginia name soon after….)
She was working the counter at The College Shop on DOG Street one day and a tourist asked, “what are they going to do with the college after the bicentennial?” They thought it was just part of the reenactment…

Always good to read or listen to (it’s available), IN ITS ENTIRETY, “What to the slave is the fourth of July?” by Frederick Douglass as you swill your beverage of choice. It is timeless, poetic, and stinging in its critique of modern American life.

Perhaps if it had been set to music or written for Broadway?
