The Rebellion Seeks Reader Feedback

About two weeks ago, I installed, Ezoic, an ad-management software on Bacon’s Rebellion. I have gotten considerable feedback that readers were experiencing technical difficulties, both on the blog and in the Disqus comments. We have addressed some of the issues that readers were encountering, but not all. Preserving a positive reader experience is more important to me than generating a modest additional increment in advertising revenue, so I have turned off Ezoic.

If you have experienced problems on Bacon’s Rebellion, please let me know in the comments if they have been resolved or if you’re still having them. If I’m going to forego additional ad revenues, I’d like to know for certain that I’ve fixed the problems.

Thanks,

— JAB

  1. I still, on occasion, cannot add a comment. I have tried exiting out and opening the site again, refreshing, and other actions… not sure what corrects the problem. i can write text in the box, but it won’t post.

I have not experienced any issues before or after.

As per recent emails I’ve experienced lots of issues. Either the comments don’t show up at all or the Disqus message appears suggesting a reload.

It seems comments appear in only about 25% of the time. When the comments rarely do come up, I can post.

Restarting MS Edge which browser I use or the BR site or rebooting seem to have no beneficial effect. I’m still on W10 with an HP six year-old laptop.

As an aside, The Disqus spellcheck seems inadequate.

    I’ve had the same problems.

The pop-ups which show up routinely are very irritating – especially on an Iphone….

Jim, I did have difficulty during the time you mentioned. Articles would either not open at all or not open fully. However, that has not been happening for at least a week, if not longer. Things are working fine at the moment.

  7. Jim, Ditto Jack Hayes. Also no comments and no sign in. Looks OK now.

  8. Seems to have resolved the problems for me. I was erratically unable to even see comments (issues much like J Harvie, but with Firefox as a browser and scripting, tracking and ad controls). It was puzzling and disappointing, not that I’ve got anything profound to add to the peanut gallery. I will make a donation to offset some of your lost revenue.

Agree with you and Cranky. Things seem more normal.

      Yay JAB!

      1. Cranky! Yes indeed:)
