Virginia’s electoral map favors Democrats. But according to this graphic from the Virginia Public Access Project, Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin did a better job of boosting turnout in Republican-leaning localities in November than his rival Terry McAuliffe did in Democratic-leaning localities. Yep, the Democrats lost this one on turnout. It was obvious that even Democrats had gotten bored with McAulife, who was not generating a lot of enthusiasm. Inexplicably, the Democrats did not really emphasize their accomplishments while in power: expansion of Medicaid, increasing the minimum wage, abolishing the death penalty, legalization of marijuana; etc. And, finally, McAuliffe gave the Republicans a gift to use in firing up their base: his careless comment about parents influencing what schools teach.

    1. Yes. Instead of accentuating the positive (to many voters) accomplishments you mentioned in your comment, McAuliffe and the democrats of Virginia did nothing but try to tie Youngkin to Trump – or at any rate it seemed that way from the ads I saw.

So we know Youngkin can get himself elected; now we get to find out whether he can govern effectively.

It was just lock step with the National Strategy that won them the White House just last year.

        1. Yep. Since they are “progressives” one might be forgiven for thinking they should have “progressed” beyond Trump-bashing, but here we are…

            Edit:

My first comment wasn’t witty enough.

Facts now lay before us that Clinton v Trump is 0 for 2.

    2. I’ve seen mixed analysis of voter breakdown, with some saying that Mcauliffe did better and others saying that he did worse among minorities and women than expected, but this analysis and others have made me wonder if maybe some democratic non-voters were quiet protests votes – not just an enthusiasm gap.
