Reminiscent of the Crack Epidemic… But Without the Crack

Quite the lively time in Little Chicago, er, Portsmouth, yesterday. According to WCEV:

A woman was shot on Seventh Street Thursday morning, two men were shot near The Connelly apartments sometime in the afternoon, a woman was shot on Staunton Avenue around 9 p.m., and lastly, a man sustained a life-threatening injury after a shooting near Alden Avenue and Emmons Place.

I’m baffled. I keep hearing from the smartest people that “violent crime” is down in Virginia…. And if it’s not, it’s the fault of too many guns.

Yeah, guns are part of the problem, and I’m open to hearing what we can do about them. But there’s a lot more going on here. Social order in Portsmouth is collapsing. It’s like the days of the crack epidemic… except we don’t have crack to blame it on.

    Interesting.

    NO ONE was shot yesterday (or the day before; or the day before that…) in the county where I reside, nor was anyone shot in any of the counties adjacent to the county where I reside.

    I’d wager per-capita gun ownership in the part of Virginia where I live is significantly higher than it is in Portsmouth, so I am having a hard time believing that the problem is “too many guns”.

    The US is starting to resemble 3rd world countries , no?

      How many of those murders in Portsmouth were committed with so-called assault rifles? I don’t know but I’d guess – none.

    For what it’s worth, it looks like Portsmouth city government is as anarchic as Charlottesville city government.

    A week ago, Council fired its city manager after she had worked there for just one year. A couple of days later, the interim deputy city manager resigned — without explanation.

    Any area that continuously re-elects Louise Lucas is inhabited by insane people. Why iss anybody surprised by this behavior?

    Instilling in all people, especially students, faith in God as a just judge and man’s eternal fate of heaven or hell would be more effective than all of the worldly fences and defenses, all of the gun laws, and all of the talks and policies. Return God and prayer to public schools. If there were no life after death, life before death would have no significance, it would be a “tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” Why not commit suicide and take as many people with you as possible – the thrill of the kill. People must realize that justice will be served, sometimes after death.

    Ah Ptroit. Ptown. Uzi Village. The Pox of Portsmouth. Sleezy Weezy. The gang banging that is slated to go thru this weekend – courtesy of the schools letting us know. When the leadership is as corrupt as Tammany Hall, this is what you get.
