It feels like we’re on an economic roller coaster these days, so why not plot real estate values since 1890 on a virtual roller coaster and go for a ride? Just remember to hold on tight.

it would have been better if at one of the peaks the coaster split – and one fork had a sign that said “functional settlement patterns” and the other fork had a sign that said “business as usual – wrong size – wrong place”.
Beyond the “kewlness” of using a roller coaster to animate the graph – what is the point? That real estate has been a mediocre investment since 1890? That it has gone up and down? That it hasn’t really fallen much in the last two years.
Kind of hard to see much without a vertical axis.
