Off the Interstate–A Local Place For A Snack

by Dick Hall-Sizemore

If you are traveling through the middle of the Commonwealth this summer and want a break for some ice cream, this is the place.

Just north of Culpeper on Rt. 29 is Moo Thru.  The claim is that the operators make the ice cream using fresh milk from cows in the region.  It is very good and they have a wide assortment of flavors.

You can drive through or order from the window and eat on picnic tables under an open shelter.   It is a popular place and, on weekends, there are usually cars backed up for the drive-through and people lined up at the window.

Nice family run business. This region of Virginia was once known for gold mining. Who knew the new gold mine would be ice cream?

About 90% of the American population including the lactose intolerant. Never understood the water boarding. Just put a bowl of ice cream in front of ‘em. “Talk, or the ice cream melts!”

  4. An assortment of flavors. Might those flavors include mocha with chocolate chips?

Sorry, but no. Their list of flavors is on the website. In addition to the listed flavors, they have seasonal flavors. For example, yesterday, I had peach, which is not one of their regulars. https://moothru.com/about/

If desperate, Haagen Dazs makes Coffee Chip. It’s very good for store-bought. It’s the spousal unit’s fav.

I did not know there were franchises. The one near Culpeper is the original.

The line can get rather long as that establishment as well, clearly a testament to their product and service.

You are correct. but I figured Culpeper would be more recognizable.
