Baconites and Rebels, I have disabled one of the two services that had been feeding ads to Bacon’s Rebellion. I have been receiving frequent complaints about glitches in the blog, and from my own observation, the ads were highly intrusive. The ads were bringing in a not-insignificant revenue stream, but not enough to justify the apparent loss in readership.

Just so you know… I do pay attention to reader feedback. Please let me know if Bacon’s Rebellion is a more enjoyable browsing experience now. Because if it’s NOT, I don’t want to be throwing money away, and I’ll put the ads back in.

Thanks. I can see the difference already. Maybe I won’t face another issue when I’m typing a comment and the column suddenly goes down to half an inch of width.. 🙂

On my browser, the ad that started at the bottom of the page would, with each keystroke, ratchet up, and up, and up, then disapear through the top of the screen, and start over at the bottom. Kind funny.

I see an improvement. Several weeks ago, I had sent you an email about how ads were interfering with the ability to print a copy of articles. Now that interference has disappeared.

Thank you. Some of the ads were really disgusting.

    Jim,
If it’s bringing in revenue, keep them. If you enter your articles from Disqus, you will bypass the ads. Even with my old brower, when I slipped up and came through BR homepage, they were only an irritant.

Speaking of homepages… god, I wouldn’t want to have this as my homepage. Jeez, they left comments turned on.

I did not have the problems that others seemed to be having, however, the ads that popped up when I clicked on “continue reading” or tried to go directly to comments or move to another post and then had to be exited before I could proceed, were really annoying. As a frequent user of BR, I had become resigned to them, but I think a first-time or casual user would be completely turned off.

Jim, this is off topic I know but please also remember there are more than three major universities in Virginia besides UVA, VMI, and W&L. OK. I got my amour on. Your turn.

Couldn’t resist since it’s a rarity comments actually display on my civil war era laptop.

Current ads down the right hand side labelled “advertisement” not bad at all. Lurid National Enquirer-type ads between articles, off-putting. I agree with Nancy on this though (only on this): if you need the revenue we’ll just have to cope.

Actually, JAB, the pop-ups are way worse now. Sorry to say.
