Northern Virginia School Masking Debate in One Photograph

By James C. Sherlock

In a story  “Polarized debate over masking In Northern Virginia schools” written for WAMU 88.5, American University Radio, Margaret Barthel provided an excellent and well-balanced recounting of that debate.  I recommend it to you.

The picture below that accompanied it was literally worth a thousand words.

Mask or not to mask. That is the question. Most kids from about 4th grade up will do what their friends do, not want their parents say. This is not doable. A high school teacher with 120 students cannot determine what parent wants what. It will be kids making the decision not the parents. Has anyone asked what staff want? They have to be there and work there?
