No Woke-ism to See Here, Move Along Now: VMI Edition

A correspondent has forwarded to me a communication to all Virginia Military Institute employees from the VMI chief of staff:

The Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion would like to offer a voluntary workshop (with certification) for employees who would like to learn more about working with the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual +) community in a military context. Please read the following link https://modernmilitary.org/portfolio-items/rainbow-shield/ to learn more about what topics are covered in the certification. If you are interested in participating, please complete the survey below; the suspension is Friday, March 11 COB. If there is enough interest will try to have the training in collaboration with W&L.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this survey.

The creation of a bureaucratic machinery for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at VMI came in response to allegations of systemic racism and, to a lesser degree, sexism. It looks like VMI will be treated to the full DEI experience, including LGBTQIA+.

At least the certification is voluntary.

With LBGTQA+++ stuff what is voluntary today will be mandatory tomorrow.
Also how diverse is the Diversity office? If the Diversity office people were chosen with race as a factor isn’t that Racism?

LBGTQAX+. I always thought the “T” stood for Texan anyway.

The Ukrainians would kick our asses, too.

Well, probably unfair. My mother’s uncle, long gone now, was a “confirmed bachelor” with a stellar record in WWII, landed in France a couple of days after June 6 and went all the way into Germany with his infantry division, ending the war as a first sergeant. The ultimate don’t ask, don’t tell era. But we’ve gone from “don’t ask, don’t tell” to an almost obsessive focus. Can’t wait to see what gets added to the 8-character acronym, using terms I was told were pejorative. I don’t think the old first sarge with his battle stars and CIB would want to be called “queer.”

I must admit that there is a certain amount of x-talk in the terms that escapes me, but there’s always gay. Pick a card, any card, show it to the audience and slip it back into the deck…

      I instist they include “K”.

Steve, my grandfather and his two brothers were artillery officers in The Great War. Their father, himself a colonel, was so proud of them, and the family got quite a bit of publicity. The oldest of the three brothers was gay. After the war, he worked as an auditor and remained a confirmed bachelor. I was 18 when he died, and I remember him as witty and avuncular.

Like your great-uncle, I doubt that he would have wanted — or needed — any letters attached to his name.

He was a beloved man, and I have his picture (as a 1st lieutenant, AEF), on the desk in my den. If he were alive to day, would the Acronym Police demand that he affiliate with one of the “letter” groups? Probably so. Tyrants take many forms.

Had your great uncle come out at that time, he would have at least lost his job and could have been arrested in some places and jailed. That is tyranny… fyi…

Conservatives accuse Liberals of reducing the sublime to the silly. Liberals accuse Conservatives of reducing the majestic to the mean. Both are correct.

Well, we certainly don’t want employees to learn anything about working with LGBTQIA+ in a military setting at a military institute. That wouldn’t be right at all….

Looks like VMI is going to become a haven for this nonsense. If you look closely you’d notice General Marshall’s statue has a red face.
