Money in Politics: Another New Record

The final financial reports have come in for the 27th senatorial district campaign last year. Spending for all candidates, including R’s, D’s and I’s and primary candidates, totaled $3,623,431.19, according to the Winchester Star. That campaign, in which Republican Jill Holtzman Vogel emerged victorious, was the most expensive in Virginia senate history.

I’m old enough to remember when statewide gubernatorial campaigns didn’t cost that much!

how many folks think this is a shining example of ‘free speech’?

If you do.. we should further encourage it – right?

Let’s incentivize it.. say.. let’s have the state provide matching funds… for it.. surely a worthwhile reason to add just one more tax to taxpayers….

The 27th Senatorial District? Why did that election turn into such an expensive battle?

In “core NoVA” you could bet on developers running up the bar tab by contributing to both candidates.

    But the 27th?

Do I smell the foul stench of NIMBY special interests at work here?

Or is it the malodorous stink of developers’ special interests?
