Check out the 2016 League of Conservation Voters Scorecard. There are a lot more environmental issues in Virginia than coal ash, natural gas pipelines and the Clean Power Plan. –– JAB

What does redistricting have to do with environmental issues? Mission creep?

I see redistricting as a legitimate public policy issue for debate, but how it ties to the other issues flies over my head.

Pretty simple. LCV believes that if we had non-gerrymandered districts that we’d have more elected Dems – ergo more “pro” environment votes.

Most GOP don’t see environmental issues as “pro” or “con”.. anyhow right?

not many 100% GOP votes on that scorecard and lots and lots of sub 50%.

Voila – the LCV is simply another arm of the Democratic Party. I wonder whether the LCV promoted nonpartisan redistricting in the many years the Democrats controlled both houses of the GA. For example, in the 1991 redistricting, the Democrats put Fairfax County Republicans Vince Callahan and Bob Andrews in the same district. But I bet the LCV said nothing.

well – they’re “pro” environment! Not sure I’ve ever seen a GOP group that claimed to be “pro” environment.

    right?

but LCV has always believed that if the voting districts were truly compact that more support for the environment would occur and yes primarily from Dems because the GOP pretty much not pro environment much any more.

but hey – look at this group:
