K-3 Reading Instruction – Federal Recommendations vs. Virginia SOLs

by James C. Sherlock

This column has been withdrawn while under revision based upon updated 2017 reading SOLs. Those SOL are published on the same web page as the 2010 SOLS which are still available for download. I will remap the revised reading SOLs with the Federal model depicted and report.

Still.. Virginia does well in comparisons with other states.

    Always room to improve, yes.

You rely quite a bit on govt standards and data released by public education like VDOE that does allow you to do analysis.

But I wonder how much of this we could do with choice/charter/voucher schools or with Success Academies?

Do we have a level playing field to compare and contrast?
