I was pretty much Phillipe (even studying philosophy and then going to graduate school for same). But I did it before tuition inflation so my loan debt for both grad and undergrad never crossed low-to mid 5 figures.
Phillipe’s often go to law school. Or they could do something I did, which almost anyone can do: become a realtor (or a mortgage broker, etc.). There are occupations one can go into after getting a philosophy, maybe even after “earning” a women’s studies, etc, BA, that could allow you to pay off $100,000 in debt quickly.
He could also just become a plumber or electrician. Or go work in the energy production energy…I mean after Biden and Harris are out of office.

It is stuff like this that drives me up on my favorite soapbox. The obvious fallacy here is that philosophy majors have to get a “philosophy job”. As Bruce Majors put it so well, a philosophy major can go into any field. As a follow-up, I would like to introduce some former philosophy majors who did OK in the real world:
Carly (Fiorina), former CEO, Hewlett-Packard
Carl (Icahan), one of the most successful investors in the country
Sheila (Bair), Former chairwoman of FDIC, currently president of Washington College
George (Soros), one of the most successful hedge fund managers of all time
Herbert (Allison), former COO Merrill Lynch; CEO, Fannie Mae
Gerald (Levin), former CEO Time Warner
Patrick (Byrne), founder and CEO, Overstock.com
Stewart (Butterfield), founder Flickr; currently CEO, Slack
Peter (Thiel), cofounder PayPal
Reid (Hoffman), founder LinkedIn-
…and not the mention all the CEOs that actually did not get a degree at all in anything…dropped out…

Out of how many philosophy majors? They would not get a look in engineering, computer science, chemistry or physics, math, without a minor/double major or some massive coursework in another field. How many others on their boards or upper management are philosophy majors?

To be a success – take a lot of different capabilities.
I’d not be surprised if Zuckerberg “fails” at Calculus and many other successful people in this world. It’s really an elitist concept that misses the mark in the real world.
Some of the smartest folks in the world – understand human nature in an economic sense – and probably could not do a Calculus problem if their life depended on it but they’re a thousand times more successful than most hard core math types.

Study whatever you want. Just deal with the consequences. The average registered nurse makes $77,460 per year. The average salary of a medical doctor is $294,000.
If you want to go into nursing accept the fact that you won’t make as much as the doctors in the facility where you work. Stop whining about the “1%”.
If you want to study archeology, anthropology or philosophy – go ahead. Just stop complaining about how much the electrical engineers are making.
Life is full of choices. People are responsible for the outcomes their choices bring.

Totally Agree. Further, there is more than money involved for some. Money is not the only thing in life for everyone.
Any job is honorable work. Every job is a valuable experience that adds to one’s life.
Some folks know (or think they do or their parents do) exactly what they are going to be when they get to be an adult. Others, take longer and sometimes it’s an adventure and also worth it.
Some folks measure success as $$$ – I truly feel sorry for them. Once you can pay for life’s necessities and a few luxuries… what is it really about?

All the complaints I’ve ever heard about how expensive college is and/or how little certain degrees make have come from the parental generation.

NN has been on disqus for 58 days and in that time has amassed 887 comments, which is approx. 15 comments a day for 58 days straight.
Larry joined disqus way back in 2011, however since April 7th he’s managed to amass 283 comments, which is also roughly 15 comments a day for 19 days straight.
The lion share of their comments are noting but complaining about others who don’t not assign to their political bend or complaining about this blog.
