Not to quibble over a meme, but Mary and Joseph were traveling from Nazareth to Bethlehem for a census. In other words, to ensure their government-mandated documentation.

    2. Interesting that having previously denounced religion’s influence on politics, you post this effort to do just that.

I am, however, most bothered by the factual inaccuracies of the sign.

      “Brown-Skinned”

Perhaps the creator of the sign is unaware, but the skin color and racial identity of Jews has long been used as a means of discriminating against them, and it continues today. In the past, they were viewed as dark for discrimination purposes, and now they are portrayed as white oppressors. I see this a anti-Semitism “by any means necessary.”

Yes, Jesus was a “Middle-Eastern” Jew, as are the Jews living there today.

“Undocumented Immigrant” with reference to Jesus is a complete falsehood. Jesus’ legal father was a descendant of King David from the tribe of Judah, as was his mother Mary. Both had ancestral ties to Bethlehem, which was the birthplace of King David. The right of Jews to visit or live in Bethlehem was well “documented” at the time of Jesus’ birth.

Additionally, Bethlehem was (and is) in Judea, ancestral home of the Jews. This area is now called the West Bank, primarily to deny the Jewish history and claims to the area. Many important and sacred sites in Jewish history are within what is now called the West Bank.

Not so much denounce the influence of religion on politics…. more point out the hypocrisy of the ideology of the “Christian” Right which was the central point of the meme … but thanks for grounding the message historically … that explains a lot of what the casual observer perceives this time of year…

What makes you think I am not a Christian….?

          2. The meme may not be correct in every detail, but certainly conveys the spirit of your comments about Christians with whom you disagree.

In truth, I will freely admit that I don’t understand your perspective at all. Your posts are a series of irreconcilable contradictions to me, especially with respect to religion.

Luckily, my relationship with God does not rely on the understanding of others.

Absolutely! The same might be said for those with whom you disagree and mock.

I am fine with that… as long as they keep it to themselves and not try to impose it on me or others.

That would be the critics. We can’t have a beer brewed by….homophobes? Or transphobes? Or both? What particular thoughtcrime was so dangerous to the Snowflakes of Naaaafulk? (It’s Norfolk – just say it!)

    2. It looks like Norfolk City Council approved their special use permit.

That’s because those who advocate socialism have never lived under it.

    1. Leftists claim to care about the hoards coming North to flee the poverty and corruption in Central and South America, but they can’t bring themselves to admit why those countries became the way the are. It’s not for lack of natural resources.

Leftists in the US have a long history of embracing communists and socialists there, but take no responsibility for the havoc that results from their policies.
