If it weren’t for the neurotic language-centric attitude of the French, that would be a great tourist ad for the city in English speaking countries.

To your point, a French speaking friend from Canada visited France and was treated very poorly by the locals because of her accent.
In France, I think it’s probably better to speak English than imperfect French.
I’m told that some places outside of Paris are more friendly, but I wasn’t able to validate that when I was there. Our group didn’t find Paris very hospitable, so we quickly exited France for other parts of Europe.

Even better to speak German.
When in Paris as a young lad, my older brother was attempting to get directions from a gendarme using his high school French. The gendarme was less than helpful. Mom then chimed in with her German. No *stuff*, he snapped to attention and clicked his heels.

My 6-month old puppy ate a glass bird ornament. Fed him bread until we got to the emergency vet. X-ray, Ipicac, and $350 later we moved any ornaments that resembled animals from the bottom to the top.

Yeah, he came close to using his maximum lifetime medical benefits on his first visit. 😊
