Hard right conservative Kenneth T. Cuccinelli has a very good chance of becoming the next governor. At least that’s my view 11 months out.

I disagree with Cuccinelli on almost everything and will spare my readers the list. But I do agree on one thing: he has proved to be a wily politician. He’s turned the Republican establishment on its head. His likely opponent Terry McAuliffe has yet to prove himself as a viable opponent if he is indeed the Democratic choice, as he now seems he will be. Cuccinelli’s off-year race will be one of the most closely watched by the national media.

      I loved your article and analysis. I just wonder why you didn’t comment on the George Allen / Tim Kaine matchup last November. To me, that contest holds more relevance than Romney – Obama.

    Good article. I’m not sure that many people actually “know” the Cooch and his positions which means if he moderates his talk he can masquerade his way into the governorship especially if McAuliffe comes across as a shyster and/or has some unfortunate skeletons fall out the closet.

    Virginia is becoming a state replica of the US in that the rural is Red and the urban is purple, trending Blue and the election may be decided on which color turns out voters stronger.

      Generally right but with substantial aberrations.

      Prince William County has a mix of politicians but seems to create the state’s most conservative legislators – Bob Marshall, Ken Cuccinelli, Scott Lingamfelter. PWC is hardly rural.

      Accomack County went for Obama last November as I recall. Hardly an urban locale.

      I think the reality in Virginia is a bit trickier than urban / suburban vs rural.

      Meanwhile, I defy anybody to explain Texas.

    agree and here’s why and it’s somewhat specific to Obama.

    The are counties in Va that have substantial minority populations that traditionally don’t turn out that well but they did for Obama.

    You are correct about Prince William and I’d be curious to hear why
    your theory is as to why.

    Texas is Texas…. I’d not have a clue and willingly admit it.

    Perhaps our man Accurate has some thoughts (sans the right wing ideology please).
