Happy 4th, Everyone!

4th of July fireworks over Fort McHenry.

And the rockets’ red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there

I’ll be taking a day off from the culture wars to remember — and appreciate — what all Americans have in common.

Have a great 4th. Drink real American beer and eat real hamburgers, not that frou-frou pale ale and mealy, environmentalist-approved fake “meat”… whoops, slipped again! Enjoy the holiday any way you please!

Piña coladas are America, right? Well, from the South.

FWIW, I think I may have stumbled upon a major problem with police training…

I attended a Sons of the Revolution event in Front Royal. Each member read aloud a portion of the Declaration of Independence. It struck me like a thunderbolt. This is how most Americans received the Declaration in 1776. Verbally and in public since most of us could not read and write yet. I have read it many times. First time I had it read to me. Powerful!

    Jefferson lives…

Or maybe we could try something novel like treating people with severe mental illness.

That’s about 3rd on the list. Once again it seems the cops had a pretty good idea who they were looking for. Like the others we will find he had a history. He did not just pop up out of nowhere.

We have a profound failure to figure out why we are a) creating suicidal kids b) failing to treat them c) preventing them from taking others out with them.

Have you not wondered why no headlines have read “Sixteen-year old girl kills 10 at school shooting “.

9 times out of 10, we KNOW who they are from their social media activity.

I still don’t understand why we don’t check their social media as a requirement for a gun.

What the heck is a “background check” if we don’t do that?

That’s why we have wars isn’t it? Send all the 18 year olds to the Ukraine, let the survivors learn how to kill wholesale.

American beer tastes that way in the air too.

When Adolph Coors realized that Americans liked his beer, he did the right thing.

    Happy 4th to all.

A tradition in my family is reading from and reflecting on first documents. It is an amazing body of literature that over decades we have not exhausted. Despite all their warts and human shortcomings those guys revolutionized the world. They created a framework that has endured and that we can build on in a future they could not have imagined.

Remarkable how much of it emerged right here in Virginia. We have high standards to uphold.

I’ll drink to all that, American beer, Richmond’s own Legends Brown Ale to start.

Whatever happened to Richbrau? Guess I just dated myself. Whoops. Just looked it up and guess it’s still a thing.

My dad loved that beer. Left city hall and made a beeline for the Bectamarians’ (Armenians) little joint just off Hanover on Lombardy. They saved the chicken giblets from making fried chicken which he brought home and my mom made giblet stew. Times were hard after the crash and that nourishing meal helped.

It showed back up a few years ago, but I’m not sure what happened with it. Don’t think the reincarnation was brewed in Richmond.

I remember touring the old brewery, that is getting to be a long time ago.

“CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A federal judge on Monday ruled in favor of three major U.S. drug distributors in a landmark lawsuit that accused them of causing a health crisis by distributing 81 million pills over eight years in one West Virginia county ravaged by opioid addiction.”

    1. Lefty665 Avatar
      Lefty665

That’s some very busy docs writing scrips for 10 million pills a year, more than 800k a month, in 1 county. They may have needed nurse practitioners to help with that. The pharmacies must have been busy too. “Hey Charlie, order another 100,000 tabs of Oxy, we’re running low.” It would have been arriving by the pallet on an 18 wheeler.

and nobody noticed anything odd. Curious.
