“Dulles rail is starting to look like a vanity project”

When the Washington Post editorial board starts having misgivings about a major rail transportation project, it’s time to start considering an exit strategy. The estimate for the first phase of the project–Falls Church through Tysons Corner to Reston–has ballooned from $1.5 billion to $2.4 billion.

Update: Road to Ruin has more.

All I can say is, thanks again John Warner for showing you clearly are not a conservative in any sense of the term. Soon you will be rivalling your neighboring Senator Byrd in pork barrel prowess.

Wow, another way to get people into the city from the ever-expanding suburbs? Hard to fathom how this would not be a good thing.

By the way, EVERY Senator and Congressman has pet projects like this. It’s how they get re-elected. Everybody does it, and there are much worse offenders. The transportation bill is funding all sorts of things that have no relevance to transportation at all. Just look through the thousands of pages and you’ll find all sorts of fat it makes Porky Pig look trim.

I didn’t feel like leaving a long comment, so I just wrote a post on the Dulles Metrolink.

    Check it out.

Not Guy, you might want to read the article before posting. They pretty much admit that this boondoggle won’t help the traffic problem in the suburbs and is costing more every day…

A lot of the financial problen is based on the fact that trains don’t climb hills very well. How dysfunctional does transit have to be before we pull the plug?

Even though they have now found a way to cut the price(make it uglier) we can besure the price will balloon again.
