Do not expect much help on Mobility and Access from the presumptive Donkey Clan presidential nominee based on today’s action.

Eric M. Weiss has the story in WaPo today: “Road Plus Rally Equals Snarls” Obama Event at (Nissan) Pavilion Promises Epic Back-Ups.”

You would not expect Sen Obama himself to understand the self-inflicted Mobility and Access disaster caused by approval of Nissan Pavilion over a decade ago – but his handlers, staff and the host / promoters from the Commonwealth?

The settlement pattern solution? Do not hold any event in the Pavilion.

The Autonomobile industry image solution? Get out of the naming “rights.”

The political image and turn a red state blue strategy? Do not hold this event in the Pavilion.

    Who is Shania Twain?

    Many who live in the area served by the I-66 corridor keep a Cellar Door (original name of the venue) program and avoid the area when there is a “concert” with a primium price. Not a matter of musical preference.

    Dr. Risse once said he would not go there to see Wolfgang A. Mozart if he were on the program.

    Who are the ‘Beltway people”? I would like to meet them.

    Are they following the Belway to Easter Island?

    I suspect those who do not know or care who Shainia Twain is have more Quality of Life than those who pay big bucks for tickets and CDs.

    Claude Lewenz would agree I suspect.

    You anti-Beltway folks need to get a life.

    By the way, call off the dogs. The citizens of Virginia and of the Washington-Baltimore New Urban Region were smart enough to stay away from Nissian in droves.

    Instead of the antisipated 25,000 and the feared 50,000 attendees, only 10,000 showed up.

    The difference between 10,000 and even 12,000 or 14,000 is huge in traffic impact terms.

    But then all you who know Shania Twain, knew that too.

    For those still in the dark, Shania is the great, great granddaughter of Mark.

    She does Eliz. Cady Stanton impersonations to open political pep rallies for the Libertarians, the Naderites and other major Post 2008 political parties.

    What happens to the security guards, ushers, beer vendors, small businesmen and businesswomen who own concessions?

    They stop getting paid.

    The Nissan Pavillon was poorly planned. That’s obvious to anyone who has ever attended an event there.

    But simply shutting it down?

    What would happen?

    Would Shania Twain just stop performing?

    Of course not.

    She would perform at the MCI Center in DC. Or, Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland. The Virginia based security guards, ushers, beer vendors, etc would have less work. The Maryland and DC based security guards, beer vendors, etc. would have more work.

    Virginia would collect les in taxes while DC and MAryland would collect more.

    Of course, you could make up the difference by imposing higher tolls on the Beltway and I95.

    Which will further stagnate economic growth.

    Will will require higher taxes to appease the “descendants of Pocohontas”.

    Which will choke off more economic growth.

    What is so hard to understand about this spiral?

    Many of the site were in the Commonwealth.
