Do It for Richard Gere

C’mon, people. The General Assembly goes to a lot of trouble to approve license plates. The least you can do is show your support. Free Tibet!

This article fails to direct people properly. AP is getting sloppy, now
that Helen Thomas has retired. How long before a Green wire service can be
    organized?

    >ANNANDALE, Va. – A Tibetan group is pushing for a special Virginia license
plate that would feature the sun rising over Himalayan mountains and the
    words “Friends of Tibet.”

    >”The purpose is to build up the friendship between Tibetans and
Virginians,” said Kalden Lodoe, spokesman for the association. “Most
Tibetans live in Fairfax, and we are indebted to Virginia as a state. It’s
a way of saying that we are here.”

I thought most Tibetans lived in Tibet or Nepal.

    >But because there are few Tibetans in Virginia _ local leaders estimate
there are only a few hundred in the state _ the group has struggled to get
enough people to sign up for the plates. So far, about 270 drivers have
paid the required $25 fee and signed up for one, less than the 350 required
    by state law.

The $25 appears to be an annual fee.

    >The design of the plate was sponsored by state Sen. Patricia S. Ticer of
Alexandria, passed by the General Assembly in 2004 and signed by Gov. Mark
    R. Warner. It also has been approved by the Virginia Department of Motor
    Vehicles and state police.

You wouldn’t know it. After driving across Roanoke to DMV and waiting for
an hour, I found that the state does not accept the applications.

To order, DMV says to contact
