COVID data junkies might want to check out the latest iteration of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association COVID hospitalization dashboard. It now provides a regional breakdown. After winter’s Omicron surge, the numbers are heading down fast, and could well dip lower than the level Virginia enjoyed last summer. The seven-day moving average of COVID hospitalizations statewide stands at 381 today. In the Far Southwest region, the number is only 19. Cross your fingers and hope the lull lasts.

    Have these numbers been updated to remove all the bloated counts? We all know hospitals benefitted by reporting cases and deaths. Dieing with COVID or dieing from COVID was always counted in the bloated numbers. I’ll bet the numbers are cut in half or more.

      Whether people in for other matters are being counted just because they also test positive for this virus is irrelevant to the trend line, which is clearly heading back toward baseline. They’ve counted “for” and “with” together all along.

      The BA.2 now spiking in Europe will ramp up here long before that, but all going well it will be “cases” going up but not hospitalizations and deaths. Looking across the pond we made the right call cancelling our April trip. The tourist experience remains pretty limited over there. And a surprise positive test still traps you in quarantine, missing your flights.

    First three comments have all picked up the new Republican gaslighting mantra… “Covid never really happened.. it wasn’t that bad…” I am sincerely hoping JAB and crowd can ignore the siren’s call. We know Walter already drank the Kool-aid… alas…
