Call Before You Friggin’ Dig!

What’s Dominion’s slogan? “Call before you dig.”

Well, pay attention people, and call before you friggin’ dig! Some lame brain failed to call before he dug today, and he knocked out the power for much of my neighborhood, including me, for four hours. Thanks a lot, dude!

Even underground utilities can go out? 🙂

electric utilities are usually buried deeper than other utilities so you have to be REALLY digging and/or contractor digging… AND it’s not particularly healthy if you’re digging with hand tools!

  3. Usually when that happens, some one has been farting lightening bolts. Can I also say that as someone who had them come out and they didn’t mark a large area near my fence, even though I specifically stated to them I was putting in a new fence on that side.

Miss Utility is a bit of a perverse “service”… sometimes… you have to be REALLY trying to cut electric service stuff as an individual.. more likely some contractor with a ditch witch or similar.

I “cringed” when Verizon was laying FIOS in our subdivision and sure enough, they cut the electric!

When I was a young attorney working in-house at the Telephone Company, I handled a lot of cable cut cases. Sometimes others cut our cables; sometimes we cut someone else’s cables. While there were a number of instances where no one called before digging, there were also considerable cases where a locate was requested; the lines marked; and, low and behold, parts of the cable were located outside the area that was marked. There were too many cases where the unneeded, but active. cable was simply looped and buried.
