    So you are saying people who eat bacon are less likely than Orthodox Jews to blow themselves up in the name of Allah…? That is quite a claim… and a bit disturbing to boot…

      Or perhaps it is incredibly insightful. The heart of the problem is the ancient ban on eating pork products. Everything would be all better if they’d just sit down together with bacon sandwiches.

        A large number of individuals (like 1.5 billion) chose to not eat meat at all including pork. I would still like to break bread with them as well.

      Not to get too far into the logic of a bad meme, but I believe it speaks to two populations (“people”): those who eat bacon (A) and those who don’t (B). Population A, as a whole, is more less likely to perform action X (“blow themselves up in the name of Allah”), than Population B.

      You can certainly dive deeper and compare subsets of the populations (A1, A2, A3 and B1, B2, B3, etc.), but that’s not what the meme is saying.

        Given the total number in the non-bacon eating (which includes vegetarians remember) set and the number in the target subset (specific religious fanatics), I doubt it is even statistically accurate…

    It’s a little hard, but I will drag a point from this post. In USA we tend to call everything suicide, eg a WWII kamakaze pilot etc. In the non-Western world, suicide means only one thing- mental health issue, which is a crime against humanity, the stigma about mental health is enormous in collective cultures. So for example, when a commercial pilot takes a plane down, that can never be accepted as the accident cause. It is denied for example, Egypt Air 990, Indonesia, China, Singapore, Malaysia MH370.
