  Metropolitan statistical areas in this table follow the current MSA definitions released in 1993. They include the Virginia portions only for MSAs which cross state lines.

 

The U.S. Census developed these numbers by surveying representative samples of residents in each locality. The smaller the jurisdiction and the smaller the survey sample, the greater the potential for error. Accordingly, use the numbers for small, individual localities with caution. The numbers for larger units such as planning districts are less likely to be affected by sampling errors.
